A Liverpool bodybuilder received a “substantial” extrajudicial agreement from the police.

Akinwale Arobieke, who has previous criminal convictions and is a well-known figure in Merseyside, sued the Greater Manchester Police Chief for malicious prosecution and embezzlement in public office. It came after he claimed that two GMP police officers were campaigning against him to put him in trouble.

He has now received payment a few weeks before the trial takes place in Manchester County Court. In his civil lawsuit against GMP, Mr Arobieke alleged that since 2012 he has been the target of two specific agents, who are not being publicly known at this time.

One of the officers is now a detective superintendent of the same force and the other officer is currently unable to be appointed in any case for legal reasons.

Mr. Arobieke alleged that after answering that he was attending an event, these officers embarked on a campaign against him, making false allegations that he had been harassed by the now detective superintendent, which culminated in the indictment and prosecution. of him.

Mr Arobieke said they did so knowing that given a “draconian” court order against him, they would put him in trouble. Arobieke successfully defended himself in the harassment trial in 2013.

He instructed the Liverpool firm, James Murray’s lawyers, to help him seek GMP to compensate for embezzlement in public office and malicious prosecution. Mr Arobieke said today: “This has been an ordeal since the beginning of the allegations against me and the many years it has taken me to complete my civil action.

“It simply came to my notice then. I would like to publicly thank Lee Massingham of James Murray’s attorneys and Stephen Simblet, QC of Garden Court North Chambers, for their services in continuing my case and reaching me a substantial GMP settlement. “

Massingham said: “Mr Arobieke has been treated unfairly for many years, especially after a draconian sex offender was issued against him. He considers that the order has been abused on numerous occasions by various forces the facts relating to this case are a very good example of this ill-treatment.

“The order was lifted some time ago, but he has been forced to endure these proceedings for a few years only to resolve the matter very soon before the trial. That being said, I am delighted with the outcome of this case. for Mr. Arobieke and I feel he can move on now. ”

A GMP spokesman said: “We can confirm that GMP has resolved the complaint filed by Akinwale Arobieke and we will not comment further.”
