Aldi Shoppers Frightened by Jubilee Opening Hours as Supermarket Criticized for “Sad” Ad

Posting on social media, Aldi said the store’s opening hours would remain the same during the holiday.

It arrived despite the movements of rivals in large stores, such as Tesco and Sainsburys, to change the schedule on Thursday and Friday to allow staff to celebrate the historic Jubilee event.

In a post on Facebook, Aldi wrote: “We’re open for the Jubilee celebration! Be sure to come down and get everything you need for the weekend!

“Our regular schedule will be in place this holiday weekend.”

Most shoppers quickly opposed the announcement and criticized Aldi for not closing stores to give staff a break and a chance to celebrate the jubilee.

One replied: “Sad for the staff. People should be able to manage for two days without the need for a supermarket.

“I come from a village where the shops are still closed for half a day on Mondays and God forbid when I was little in the 80’s and 90’s.

“The supermarkets were closed on Sundays … horrible truth. I hope they pay them well and it’s a voluntary job.”

Another buyer said: “Too bad the staff … not even the holiday hours.

“It’s a shame … I hope it’s twice as long and a day as a replacement.”

A third said: “It is a pity for the staff, it is an event that is not once in a lifetime.

“Close stores”.

Another was outraged: “I always buy from Aldi, but I don’t agree with that.

“It only takes one day for these people to celebrate something they will never see again!”

In response to criticism, Aldi’s spokesman told The Manchester Evening News: “All of Aldi’s colleagues who work during the holiday will have free time.

“We are very grateful to all of Aldi who are working this weekend to help our customers get everything they need to celebrate the Jubilee.”
