In October 2020 I did a feature on a project that was trying to find all the existing Super Nintendo manuals, scan them, and upload them to the Internet. I am pleased to report that as of July 2022, the project has completed an important milestone, and for many of you reading this is the main one.
When I posted this feature, the team (including Arachness, BuffaloJoe, Timber, SNES Central, and Grant Kirkhart) working on the project, led by streamer and archivist Peebs, had uploaded about 600 scans and only had about 100 manuals until they had done so. scanned the instructions for all games released in the West during the life of the console.
It was good progress, but also, the deeper they went through the SNES library, the harder it would be to find notebooks for the weirdest and rarest games in the collection. Then last week:
We did it! The last! The final SNES manual in English!
Our good friend @wiredcontrol provided us with a scan of “90 Minutes European Prime Goal”!
Yes, it feels great to finish a project.

This means that the project files now have an English manual for each Super Nintendo game that has been officially released in that language. Sometimes it’s the American version, sometimes it’s the PAL (European / Australasia) version, sometimes it’s both if there were differences beyond the cover image, spelling and email addresses on the part later (such as the way Contra 3 was called Super Probotector to PAL). regions).
Not all games have been released in the West, as some games could get different unique versions depending on the language market, but since this is an English language website, I thought it was an important milestone. for our readers.
And it’s still very close. The team is just a timid game of this achievement of “all western textbooks ever” with a single release: an original exploration of the unique German version of Daze Before Christmas (although they have a translated version of the rare version in English). launch of Mega Drive in case anyone needs the information).
After that, though, it seems like his job never ends. Even when all the manuals have been scanned and uploaded, some games, including many role-playing games, had important information annotated elsewhere, such as separate maps or posters, so they are also looking to upload and scan them. whenever possible. They also have a section of Super Famicom manuals to remove.
If you want to take a look at the full library, or just add it to your bookmarks for a future that needs it, it’s available here, though you can also search for a specific game in the Internet Archive and also will appear there. . And for something more action-packed, in addition to picking up his manuals, Peebs is also working for the SNES library and trying to beat all the Twitch games (in the end he only had 47 left!)
