E3 could have taken off in 2022, but the shows should continue. The big one today is Xbox’s annual showcase, which shares the title’s billing with the only studio of its own that has only released games on PS5 since it was acquired by Microsoft for the price of a presidential election.
Over the course of 95 minutes, Xbox brought up a lot of games from all of his work. Some were new. Others have already been announced. And of course, the Game Pass logo was literally everywhere. All in all, the show was … a lot. Here’s everything Xbox showed at its big 2022 press conference, in descending order of wonder.
Starfield looks very, very big
It was starting to look like it would never happen, but at last Bethesda finally showed more than eight seconds of footage for Starfield, their next open world role-playing game. First announced in 2018, Starfield was initially scheduled for a November 11, 2022 release, but recently moved to the first half of 2023.

Hollow Knight Silksong arrives at Game Pass
After being mocked for 10,000 years, Hollow Knight: Silksong, Team Cherry’s follow-up to its popular metroidvania, got a meaty game trailer. Game Pass arrives. The Cherry team did not reveal a release date, but Xbox executive Sarah Bond said all games seen in today’s store should be out in the next 12 months.
Redfall’s game looks sick
Arkane unveiled Redfall, a cooperative vampire shooter, at last year’s E3 with a movie trailer. The study finally showed the first view of the public game today. It certainly seems more action-oriented than the other games in the studio, Prey and Dishonored. Each character seems to have their own set of powers; one can become invisible, one can electrocute enemies, one is burdened with debt (but has kinetic abilities, then, fair trade?). Redfall was originally scheduled for launch in the summer of 2022, but, along with Starfield, was delayed until the first half of 2023.
Forza Motorsport will run on Xbox next spring
Forza Motorsport is the most buttoned cousin of Forza Horizon 5, the racer who briefly took the world by storm last fall. Instead of an open world, it is a more traditional arcade runner, focused on narrow race tracks. Developer Turn 10 Studios says it’s “the most technically advanced racing game ever made.” Based on these images, which were represented in the engine … yes, yes, I can’t argue! It will be released next spring for Xbox and PC.
Forza Horizon 5 has a Hot Wheels expansion
That. Aspects. Bananas !!! Forza Horizon 5 was already one of the most entertaining racing games in the world. The expansion of Hot Wheels, which seems to include loops of loops that truly make it a reality, is even more bananas. It is available on July 19, 2022.
Naraka Bladepoint arrives on Xbox
The third-person action battle royale, initially only available for PC, will hit Xbox. It is available on June 23, 2022 and will feature crossword puzzles, and will also launch a campaign.
Obsidian is playing a detective game
Obsidian has more iron on fire than a blacksmith. The venerable RPG studio is also developing Pentiment, a two-dimensional adventure game focused on the detective game and a pictorial art style. The initial footage makes it look a bit like Disco Elysium: Renaissance Faire Edition. Releases in November.
The full release of Grounded comes out in September
Also from Obsidian: Grounded, the studio version of Honey I Shrunk the Kids, will see its full release this September. Obsidian did not share a specific date. The game has long been in early access. Lots of bugs (literally, because you’re too small, which makes insects … you know what? It doesn’t matter).
Person arrives on Xbox
Historically, Persona, the 700-hour Atlus RPG series, has not been played on Xbox. That changes with the upcoming Persona 3, Persona 4 Golden and Persona 5 Royal releases, the latest of which is available on October 21st. (The other two have no set dates).
Hideo Kojima is playing an Xbox game
Hideo Kojima, the main creative personality behind Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding, is developing an Xbox game. It is estimated that it will take advantage of Xbox’s forays into cloud technology. Kojima did not reveal any details about the game. Last week, rumors about Overdose, a game in development by Kojima, ignited the rumor. Kojima himself reportedly tried to get the site that initially published the news to remove the article.
A Plague Tale: Requiem looks more like A Plague Tale
Who knew such a dirty game could be so beautiful? Despite all the rats and guts, the stealthy adventure game from Asobo A Plague Tale: Requiem is easily one of the most amazing games on the horizon. It came out this year.
Flintlock is a clean-looking action game
Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn is a third-person action game with magic, guns, axes and the best weapon of all: double jumps. However, unfortunately you have to fight wild turkeys, so it will probably be a difficult AF. It is scheduled for 2023.
Contempt finally comes out
Scorn, a horror game that has been delayed twice, finally has a release date: October 21, 2022. Based on the psychologically devastating artwork by HR Giger, Scorn is in first person, the which means it’s a traveling nightmare factory. I’m already shaking!
Microsoft Flight Sim is getting Halo Pelicans
You can no longer (officially) fly a movie to Halo Infinite, but to Microsoft Flight Sim. Microsoft made the quintessential futuristic marine launch vehicle available to Flight Sim today with a free content download. Also: the game is getting helicopters.
Overwatch 2 launches in the fall

Now: History Untold is a new strategy game coming to PC
Give me anything you’ve narrated for Mass Effect’s Shohreh Aghdashloo and you’ll get my attention. So yeah, the turn-based strategy game Now caught my eye. But I will reserve the trial until the studio reveals the game.
The Elder Scrolls Online is receiving a High Isle expansion
There is no news on Elder Scrolls VI, but the Elder Scroll MMO will receive DLC based on High Isle, which Bethesda’s Pete Hines noted had not been seen in an Elder Scrolls game before. It will be released on June 21, 2022 for Xbox and PC.

Diablo IV is well on its way to launch next year
When the next iteration of the loot game that defines the Blizzard genre comes out, it will have cross-play on PC, Xbox and PlayStation. The necromancer is a new class for Diablo IV. The isometric loot hunting game will also feature over 150 dungeons. Blizzard says the mission of the final story is just the beginning of the game. Oh we …
Lightyear Frontier is another robot cultivation game
There’s Lightyear, the Buzz Lightyear story, and then there’s Lightyear Frontier, a first-person farming and craft game where you try to survive on an exoplanet. It will be released next year.
Dibs playing Cocoon
Cocoon, made by one of the designers of Limbo, has a magnificent and temperate look and … from top to bottom? eh. It is being published by Annapurna, scheduled for release in 2023, and it is already catching my eye.
The latest case of Benedict Fox is another side-scrolling platformer
The Last Case of Benedict Fox is an atmospheric side-scrolling action platformer. It’s not one of the 100 Limbo-likes currently in development, but it seems to have a faster pace rather than the melancholy good faith that defines this subgenre. The Last Case will be out next year.
The creators of Echo Generation have a new game
Echo Generation, a voxel turn-based role-playing game with unmistakable vibrations from Stranger Things, ruled. The studio’s next game, Ravenlok, looks similar, though a little more inspired by Final Fantasy. Departure next year.

You play as a human being capable of becoming invisible. Your goal is to eliminate giant lashes with lasers for faces. It will be released next year.

Rick and Morty’s creator has a shooter in the works
Maybe it’s me, but by now, Rick and Morty’s different humorous race has lost its charm for me. But if it’s yours, then the High on Life alien shooter should be on your radar. It will be released in October for Xbox and PC, and will be released in Game Pass.
