Almost half of Tory voters do not want Boris Johnson to resign

Almost half of Tory voters do not want Boris Johnson to resign, according to a new poll.

The poll of 2,500 people, by research consultancy Public First, found 70% thought Johnson should have stood down as Tory leader, compared to 21% who thought he should. to have stayed

Among Conservative voters, the poll found 45 per cent thought he should have resigned, but the same proportion thought he should not have.

Luke Tryl, the UK director of More in Common, which commissioned the poll, which was carried out between Thursday last week and this Tuesday, said: “Although many think Boris Johnson was right to resign, it is not true say he has no fans.

“Our poll reveals Tory voters are divided over his resignation, with almost half saying he should not have been forced to stand down.

“The results also show a positive view of his legacy, including his handling of Covid and Ukraine, with his staunchest supporters still among Red Wall voters.”
