Amazon has finally redesigned the Prime Video interface, including new menu options, playlists and more

Amazon is launching a new user interface for Prime Video. Finally, it seems that the tech giant aims to clean up the interface and provide a better experience for Prime Video subscribers.

Prime Video offers an extensive library. However, Amazon mixes much of the included show and movie catalog with content that requires additional payments or subscriptions. It is often difficult to find a movie that is offered through Prime Video compared to one available through premium video on demand (PVOD).

With that in mind, Amazon is launching a new user interface to help solve this problem. Service subscribers will begin to see a newly redesigned experience on their devices. The release begins with Fire TV sticks and Android phones. After successful launch on the aforementioned devices, the new interface will hit the desktop and iOS.

It looks like Amazon is pulling a page out of the Netflix book. The redesigned Prime Video app will soon offer a more streamlined side menu. This will include options to navigate between the Home, Store, Find, Live TV, Free with Ads and My Stuff pages. Each offers its own content catalog.

For example, if you want to rent Spider-Man: No Way Home, just go to the store page and buy the rental. Alternatively, once available The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power, can be found in the Prime Amazon Originals submenu on the home page.

Much of this new change is to help identify what piece of content is available by subscribing to Prime Video and what is not. Content like The Terminal List, another Amazon Original, has a blue check mark next to it. Programs, movies, etc. which are available for rent or purchase will have a shopping bag icon next to it.

In addition, Amazon includes a Top 10 Chart, mimicking Netflix. This will show the top 10 ranked titles at the time. Like Netflix, this list will likely rotate each week, though it’s still unclear.

In general, this should help clean up what is included with a Prime Video subscription and what is presented as an add-on or additional purchase. With live channel packages like StackTV and AMC + in addition to the available PVOD purchases, the Prime Video user interface had long needed to be updated.

Amazon has not clarified when the desktop and iOS updates will arrive. Also, it’s unclear whether native smart TV apps will be updated.
