Amber Heard has filed an appeal of a jury verdict ordering Johnny Depp to pay $US14.5 million ($10 million) in damages in his defamation case against her, according to court records.
Attorneys for Heard, 36, filed the “notice of intent to appeal” on Thursday in Fairfax County, Virginia, near Washington DC, where the big laugh was heard.
Heard plans to appeal the verdict, a ruling on the post-trial motions and “all additional orders and rulings of the trial court,” the filing reports. The New York Post.
His lawyers have until September 4 to submit the appeal motion outlining their arguments.
A Fairfax County jury sided with the 59-year-old pirates of the caribbean actor last month, he discovered that his ex-wife defamed him in 2018 Washington Post opinion piece on being a victim of domestic abuse.

Heard’s appeal comes after a judge last week denied his bid for a new trial on several grounds, including that a jury prejudiced the outcome of the case.
In a statement Thursday, Heard’s team said it believes “the court made errors that prevented a fair and just verdict consistent with the First Amendment.”
“Therefore, we are appealing the verdict,” Heard’s representatives said in a statement.
“While we realize today’s filing will light the Twitter fires, there are steps we must take to ensure both fairness and justice.”
Meanwhile, Depp’s side expressed confidence in his case.
“The jury heard the extensive evidence presented during the six-week trial and reached a clear and unanimous verdict that the defendant herself defamed Mr. Depp on multiple occasions,” a spokesman for the actor said in a statement .
“We are confident in our case and that this verdict will stand.”
