A community member of the Myrtle Beach Yacht Club has died after a brutal attack by an 11-foot alligator.
Horry County Fire Rescue Units determined the alligator grabbed the person and threw the victim into a detention pond, according to Myrtle Beach SC News.
The victim’s body was later recovered from the pond and South Carolina Department of Natural Resources officials concluded that the alligator should be sacrificed at the site.
Horry County Police spokeswoman Mikayla Moskov confirmed that the department’s environmental services and criminal investigation divisions continue to investigate the death of the unidentified community member.

A resident of the private golf community used Twitter last month to shed light on three alligators he saw in the backyard. One of the alligators reportedly measured 12 feet.
