Anna Faris says she “became someone I didn’t recognize” after the divorce

Anna Faris is a work in progress.

The 45-year-old actor spoke recently in an interview with Chelsea Handler on Handler’s podcast, Dear Chelsea, about his life after the divorce and how he is “still learning” to accept love in his life.

“Being a stepmother … I’m still learning. I really am,” she explained about raising the two children of her new husband Michael Barrett, who she has from a previous relationship. “At first I felt like I wanted to be like that. Wild, young and reckless person in their lives, because I was also going through a divorce.”

Faris married cinematographer Barrett in 2021, after meeting him in the film Overboard.

She was previously married to Chris Pratt, before divorcing in October 2018. She and Pratt share a 9-year-old son, Jack. Prior to Pratt, she married actor Ben Indra until her divorce in 2008.

When he reflected on how his separation from Indra changed his outlook on life, Faris acknowledged that “there is this kind of change going on” after the divorce.

“He hit hard the first time,” he explained. “I became someone I didn’t recognize. Like, I was always the kind of person who had my fridge full, and I organized a lot of dinners. That’s when I had friends. But then [post-divorce] I found myself in this apartment with only beer and mustard in the fridge, and it came out all the time. I didn’t have anyone to text or call to say, “Hey, can I do this?” It was incredibly liberating, and I went back to, like, when I was 17 “.

When she talks about the intimate relationship she has with herself now, Faris admits it’s “slow growth” when it comes to accepting the love of others, which can go back to her childhood.

“I was terrified of not being a good lover, especially when I was younger,” she said. “I was so aware of my body. I didn’t want anyone to see it, but I would dance on the edges. I wanted to be desperately wanted.”

“My mom never congratulated me on my physical appearance,” she explained. “I was so late: I had greasy cheeks, I wore hats for many years. I think my parents did this to me because they wanted me to stay a virgin,” she added, “this was one of the struggles of my life. , certainly”.

The story goes on

Faris ’eagerness to please people, combined with the desire to be desired by men, inspired her to make changes to her body to meet these needs.

“I just had fake breasts and I bleached my hair. That was my strategy,” she said, adding that while it’s easy for her to accept praise for her work and achievements, she still it is a struggle to accept praise for its appearance. “In Hollywood, if you’re into something and everyone looks beautiful and someone says to me ‘I think you look so beautiful,’ I can’t absorb it very well. It’s a little too much.”

After his second divorce, however, Faris says it has been “easier” to accept love, though he adds, “I still struggle with him.”

While Faris is still learning the ups and downs of being a stepfather, she has also been open about the realities of joint parenting with Pratt. Earlier this year, on his Unqualified podcast, he spoke openly about the difficulties.

“Chris and I work very hard [to coparent] because we have Jack, ”he said.“ That’s a long game idea and making sure Jack is really happy, which makes us really happy. We have a kind of circumstance luxury. You know, we’re both in other love affairs, but it’s like, how come you don’t generally sink into a place of bitterness? “

While she admits that raising a child with her ex has its challenges, after all, she wishes everyone the best.

“I want to reiterate, however, that I recognize, we all do, everyone recognizes, that there is bitterness and pain with all the breaks, and that I hope makes us more human,” he explained. “But the game is long, and it’s the worst thing to be the biggest person. It just is. It sucks! Until then, what [matters most] is that everyone is happy “.
