Another freeway overpass hit by an overpass in Metro Vancouver

Another overpass has been affected in Metro Vancouver.

Const. Ken Usipiuk tweeted Thursday afternoon that officers were assisting members of the Deas Island Expressway after a vehicle carrying a piece of heavy equipment hit the 112th Street overpass at Highway 99 in Delta .

Northbound traffic was affected, but officials said the road should be back open by 5 p.m.

Highway contractors were on site to assess the damage, Usipiuk said.

This is just one of many incidents where trucks and equipment have hit flyovers over the past year.

According to the Ministry of Transport, there have been nine incidents in the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley of over-height trucks hitting overhead bridges.

Monday, a truck hit the overpass on Glover Road in Langley.

Last week, a dump truck carrying a flatbed trailer with an excavator hit the west side of the 192nd Street overpass on Highway 1 in Surrey during the morning commute.

Equipment believed to be an excavator was being pulled by the truck with the bucket not fully collapsed when it hit the overpass.

Two SUVs were also caught in the mess. One of them was badly mangled after debris may have blown through the sunroof, leaving a woman with a cut on her head.

Another SUV also sustained some damage.
