Anthony Albanese has stated that using KFC to use cabbage in its burgers is “wrongly wrong”.

The fast food giant told customers that it is using a mixture of cabbage and lettuce due to the high price of lettuce after the floods in NSW and Queensland.

The move sparked outrage from KFC fans and many expressed frustration on social media. One customer wrote, “It feels like a sign of apocalypse.”

The prime minister intervened in the saga on Thursday during a KIIS FM interview with Kyle Sandilands and Jackie Henderson.

He said: “This is a crisis. My son loves KFC. When he finds out, he will be devastated.

Albanese described the use of cabbage as “a bit extreme”, adding: “Cabbage is not the same as lettuce. This is wrong.

He joked that he would raise the issue with his ministers at a cabinet meeting.

“I’ll put it on the list: we have a cabinet meeting today. Cabbage door,” he said.

Earlier this week, KFC posted a notice on its website warning customers that a “mixture” of cabbage would be used in any item containing lettuce.

“Due to the recent floods in NSW and Queensland, we are currently experiencing a shortage of lettuce,” the notice said.

“Therefore, we are using a mixture of lettuce and cabbage in all products containing lettuce until further notice.”

The fast food chain posted a notice on its website warning customers that a “mixture” of cabbage would be used in any item containing lettuce.

The restaurant urged customers who did not want the cabbage to completely remove the lettuce from their order.

A few weeks ago, a head of lettuce cost buyers just $ 2.80, but due to an ongoing supply crisis, the price has skyrocketed to $ 12.

A supermarket in the suburbs of Brisbane was photographed selling a single head of iceberg lettuce for up to $ 11.99 last month.

Rising prices follow a wet start to the year with unprecedented rains and floods damaging crops in NSW and Queensland.

Some Queensland lettuce farmers have lost their third crop in a row and risk collapsing their businesses after the unexpected rain.

The horticultural group warned that producers in the southeast of the state will need millions to recover from the series of natural disasters.
