Square Enix seems to have confirmed the existence of a new Just Cause game. In an investor briefing released today, the company announces that a new title in the crazy open world franchise is under development, although we don’t have any official announcements to the public yet.
Could this new game be Just Cause 5?
After Square Enix sold some of its development studios to Embracer Group last month, the studio confirmed that it would continue to publish properties such as Life Is Strange and Just Cause. Now, it seems we have more confirmation of this statement. Today, Square Enix released an investor report in May, during which chief accounting officer Atsushi Matsuda and chairman Yosuke Matsuda talked about the company’s financial fortunes. In this briefing, Atsushi Matsuda reaffirms that the Just Cause franchise will remain under the control of Square Enix and that the studio is “working on developing a new title in the franchise.”
The Just Cause franchise is known for its exaggerated gameplay, and with Just Cause 5 seemingly confirmed, it looks like that reputation will continue.
Of course, we do not really know that Just Cause 5 will be called the new game, nor do we know that it is definitely a major installment of the franchise. This announcement could refer to Just Cause Mobile, which was unveiled at the 2020 Game Awards. “, since Just Cause Mobile already has a name. All clues point to a major new Just Cause title, but of course we’ll have to wait and see what Square Enix has up its sleeve.
What is Just Cause and why would a new game be exciting?
Just Cause is a crazy open world franchise known for its emphasis on large-scale destruction. The original Just Cause was released in 2006 and was a relatively sober experience, but the franchise leaned more and more into its exaggerated elements as it progressed. This culminated in Just Cause 4 of 2018, which was not very well received (but which we liked very much). Since then, the series has been relatively quiet, except for the Just Cause Mobile announcement, which was delayed in 2021 and will now be released in 2022.
If you enjoy blowing things up, you should be excited about a new Just Cause game.
While it’s true that Just Cause games may seem a bit repetitive at times, there’s nothing like this franchise to blow up a lot of things and chat while there is chaos around you. If you love the idea of an open world where the goal is to destroy just about anything, then a potential Just Cause 5 should excite you. Could this be one of the games we hear during the upcoming Summer Game Fest? Stay tuned to TechRaptor to find out, and in the meantime, be sure to check out Just Cause 4 on Steam if you’re looking for some undoubted chaos.
