Appeal of witnesses after a serious assault in Brighton

A HOME has been taken to hospital after being assaulted while helping police arrest an alleged alcohol driver.

Officers were called to East Street, Brighton, around 1 a.m. Saturday, June 25, on reports of an alleged drunk driver who fled officers but was later arrested.

A 37-year-old man, who was in the area at the time, assisted officers in attempts to stop the driver.

While doing so, he was assaulted by another citizen, causing him a serious injury.

He was transferred to Royal Sussex County Hospital, where he remains.

Officers have released images of two men with whom they want to speak in connection with the incident.

Officers showed up at the scene but then left the area while officers responded to the injured man.

One of the men was wearing a white T-shirt that looked torn, while the second was wearing a gray hooded T-shirt and a black T-shirt.

The driver who was arrested has been charged with unrelated crimes.

Anyone who has witnessed what happened or who recognizes the two men is asked to report it to Sussex police online or to call 101 and cite series 104 of 6/25.
