watchOS 9 includes a new feature that will allow people with irregular heart rhythms to track the time they spend with atrial fibrillation, Apple announced today.
The Apple Watch heart rate monitor is already running in the background to mark any irregularities that may be a sign of atrial fibrillation. Users will now receive a weekly alert about the amount of time they spend with atrial fibrillation. They can also look at the Health app to see a breakdown of how other factors such as sleep and exercise can interact with heart rate. Users will be able to share a reading of their history of atrial fibrillation with their doctors.
The company obtained authorization from the Food and Drug Administration for a “history of atrial fibrillation function” last week, which was first reported by My Healthy Apple.
