During its annual developer conference, Apple finally unveiled its often-rumored M2-powered MacBook Air.
The new MacBook Air is poised to be a major step in the iconic line of lightweight laptops thanks to its powerful M2 chip and sleek, more square design that removes the tapered wedge look of its predecessor. The new laptop weighs just 2.7 pounds and is 11.3 mm thick.
In terms of ports, the new MacBook Air has a 3.5mm headphone jack, two Thunderbolt ports and similar to the latest MacBook Pro (2021), the return of Apple’s MagSafe charger.

The laptop’s 25 percent brighter Liquid Retina display measures 13.6 inches thanks to its reduced bezels. Apple also confirmed during its presentation at WWDC 2022 that the new MacBook Air does not include a fan. Other new features include a notch screen that houses a 1080p webcam that offers twice the low-light performance of the previous MacBook Air.
“With our relentless focus on energy-efficient performance, the M2 offers a faster CPU, GPU and neural motor. And along with greater memory bandwidth and new capabilities such as ProRes acceleration, M2 Apple’s huge silicon innovation pace for Mac continues, “said Johny Srouji, Apple’s senior vice president of hardware technology, in a recent statement.
The new MacBook Air will be available in a variety of colors, including “Silver”, “Space Gray”, “Starlight” and “Midnight”. Apple has confirmed that the M2 chip will also arrive on the incoming MacBook Pro.

The new M2 chip includes an 8-core CPU, which includes four high-performance cores and four high-efficiency cores. Its GPU offers 10 cores, along with a larger cache and a larger memory bandwidth. Finally, the laptop supports up to 24 GB of RAM.
We have contacted Apple to find out the official prices and availability of the new MacBook Air. In Canada, the MacBook Air starts at $ 1,499 for the M2 model 8-core CPU / 8-Core GPU, 8GB of RAM, 256GB of storage. Apple says the new Air will be shipped next month, but its specific release date is still unknown. During the presentation, Apple confirmed that the M1-powered MacBook Air will remain in its line of laptops.
