Apple wants to improve the quality of software with iOS 16 by encouraging beta testers to submit bugs

Apple is taking additional steps with iOS and iPadOS 16 to encourage those who are testing the company’s latest software to submit bugs and problems they experience so that they can be fixed before the software is released this fall.

Apple has announced this week iOS 16, iPadOS 16, watchOS 9 and macOS Ventura, each of the major updates for their respective platforms. None of the updates will be available to the general public until the end of this fall, but during the summer, members of Apple’s developer program will test and run the software on their devices. The tests are intended to help developers prepare their applications for updates and allow Apple to fix and receive feedback on updates before they are sent to millions of customers.

Because the software is pre-release software, it is usually full of bugs and issues. Beta testers can submit issues they find using the preinstalled Feedback app. The process of posting bugs and comments, however, is sometimes tricky, and beta testers don’t always submit the issues they encounter. The lack of feedback makes it harder for Apple to identify and fix bugs before the software is released, but Apple expects to change that this year.

Starting with ‌iOS 16‌ and iPadOS 16 beta 1 released this week, if an iPhone or iPad experiences a system-wide crash, reboot, or bug, the system will automatically ask the beta tester to send the issue to Apple, including relevant records. which could be used by Apple engineer to fix the problem.

Earlier this week at WWDC, Apple also shared tips on how to submit effective bug reports. Apple’s advice includes making sure beta testers report bugs as soon as they happen, making sure the reports are concise and detailed enough to allow Apple to replicate the issue, and making sure that files are filed. screenshots or screenshots of the problem, if any.

Over the years, Apple has come under greater scrutiny from users for unstable and buggy software updates. iOS 15, the current version of iOS, ran into problems when it was released in September 2021.

With a list of new software updates coming this fall, Apple is clearly hoping that the new pop-up window and developer advice will help you find and fix issues before the updates are released, leading to a more stable experience for to customers. Members of the public will have the opportunity to try OSiOS 16‌, iPadOS 16, ‌macOS Ventura‌ and ‌watchOS 9‌ later next month.
