Dave Rennie: ‘We’re better than this’
Dave Rennie is talking to Stan Sport.
“A massive disappointment,” he says.
“It’s not good enough.
“We conceded four tries from back kicks and we certainly dominated in the box.
“We created chances but we have to be patient, our ruck isn’t a disaster and we just weren’t clinical enough.”
He says the Wallabies lacked cohesion in the game and looked desperately frustrated, adding “We’re better than that”.
“We want to earn the respect of the country and you will never do that with performances like this.”

James Slipper: Wallabies ‘probably didn’t meet standards’
Here is the skipper, James Slipper.
“Clearly disappointed,” he says.
“Coming off a good performance last week, we wanted to back it up.
“Probably not up to standards today.”
He says the Argentines were the best team on the day.
“They got the momentum and the crowd behind them and are a tough team to play football against,” he says.
With all the teams sitting on one win each, Slipper says the Rugby Championship is even but the Wallabies are excited to get home.
“I think we’re excited to come home. It’s been a really tough tour for us.”

Argentina beat the Wallabies 48-17
Wow, what an impressive result and a brutal score for the Wallabies.
The Wallabies were outmatched tactically by former coach Michael Chieka and he can’t hide it.
The Argentines kicking was better, the breakdown was better and they took advantage of the big moments better than the Wallabies.
It is Argentina’s biggest win over Australia.

80+2′ What a test Argentina!
Oh, that’s superb from both Tomas Cubelli and try scorer Tomas Albornoz.
Cubelli scooped the ball up deep in the scrum and darted through a gap, getting ahead and that allowed Albornoz to collect and score.
The shot is successful and it’s 48-17!

Man of the Match: Thomas Gallo
The player of the match has just been announced to a standing ovation.
It is the Argentine team, Thomas Gallo after his two-try performance.

78′ Try Argentina!
Beautiful attempt to seal the win by Emiliano Boffelli!
The Wallabies lost the ball in a ruck and then Lucio Cinti put the ball on the ball, rolled it behind and Boffelli raced around Markia Koroibete to dodge the rebound in the corner.
The kicking game has been superior all day, the Wallabies have been punished for mistakes, and that’s the game in microcosm.

77′ Wallabies scrum
Argentina looked for another score but lost the ball forward thanks to some solid Wallabies defense on their right.

74′ Penalty Argentina
Reece Hodge is on and his first involvement is to deal with an Argentine in the air from another contestable kick.
Argentina rallied for a couple more phases, but we’ll come back to that offense halfway through.
They will kick in the corner and have a lineout in the 22.

72′ Penalty Argentina
The Wallabies were on top, looking to build some phases, but Ikitau kicked the ball over the line while being tackled and it will be a line out from Argentina.
No, it will be a penalty, Tate McDermott pinged for a push on the ball as frustrations boil over.

69′ Argentina penalty!
Oh, the Wallabies can’t maintain their discipline!
The ruling is that the Wallabies did not throw the ball at tackle and the home side get a penalty in relief.

67′ 50:22 Tait McDermott!
Oh, that will help the cause!
What a kick from the Queensland scrum half!
If the Wallabies score from here, a lineout five meters out, then things could get very interesting!

65′ Try Wallabies!
Len Ikitau goes down after being tackled – he got back up and strolled down the line unopposed.
So this is the referee application just like with the previous essay.
Funny how commentators aren’t that unhappy with this decision…
Can the Wallabies mount a comeback?

64′ Wallabies substitute
I haven’t mentioned all the subs, but Billy Pollard is on. Great story there, the Brumbies hooker has had one hell of a journey to get to Argentina on time and gets to make his test debut.

64′ Try Argentina!
11 phases of precise and incisive play from the Argentines gets the reward it deserves.
Thomas Gallo looked like he was tackled short, maybe the ref said he wasn’t caught, but he got up and lunged over the line…
Hmmm, not sure about the replay, but the refs were happy.
There were two penalties in the pass on Fraser McReight we heard the referee say, adding that the Reds man will be sent to the bin.
The conversion is good and the lead is now 26, Argentina 36-10 ahead.

62′ Penalty Argentina
The Wallabies are really struggling to get past this blue and white defensive line, they are forced to kick deep while the Argentinians have time to kick high and compete.
Rob Valentini closed the distance that Juan Cruz Mallia tried to touch, and scored the penalty by blocking it.
Again, commentators seem to think Valentini didn’t close that gap, but I don’t think they’re quite right. It didn’t do much, admittedly, but it did close that lane so I could run in it.
Argentina deep kick for the lineout.

58′ Touched in Argentina
Oh, the Wallabies get away with one.
Argentina were again flooding forward, Matias Moroni initially with a decent run.
There was an interception thrown to Petaia, who almost apologetically returned it directly to the Argentines.
Taniela Tupou made a strong tackle in midfield that barely halted the Pumas’ momentum.
A chip in behind the isolated James O’Connor and the Argentines hit back to gain the equalizer but then hit the ball five meters from the Wallabies’ line.

55′ Penalty Argentina
The Wallabies find themselves offside as Argentina pour in some beautiful passing plays.
The visitors swarm all over the breakdown to create that quick ball that led to an offside penalty.
The penalty is just inside the Wallabies half, but this time they will kick for touch.

53′ Penalty to Argentina!
The Argentines fired very quickly from the lineout after seeing a big gap at the back.
The Wallabies come back through Tom Wright, but as he works the ball back, he is isolated.
The shot from the ten-meter line is good by Emiliano Boffelli and the difference is 19 points, 29-10.

52′ Wallabies turn the ball over
Good ball movement left and right by the Wallabies but then a back pass goes behind and will be out for a lineout, which Argentina quickly take.

50′ Penalty Argentina
Wow, the last couple of scrums have been all over the place.
That one moved sideways at a rate of knots before Taniela Tupou was stung.
They climb about halfway.
