A potential threat to an FBI field office in Ohio sent police on a chase after an unknown suspect who remains at large early Thursday morning, according to a source and local reports.
A law enforcement source confirmed to Fox News that there was an incident at the FBI field office in Cincinnati in which an armed suspect fled the scene.
Unconfirmed information shared internally among officers suggested the suspect may be brandishing a nail gun and an AR-15-style rifle, the source said.
Law enforcement gave chase and the suspect traveled about 60 miles northwest before the chase ended at I-71 and Highway 73. Several shots were fired during a standoff, the source said .

Police teams are being positioned for an engagement and road closures are in place in the area. It is not clear if anyone is injured, and the motive for the attack is still unknown.

Fox News Digital reached out to the FBI Cincinnati and the Ohio State Highway Patrol for more information. An FBI spokeswoman said by phone that they had no immediate comment.
In an email to Fox News Digital, the Ohio State Highway Patrol later confirmed that it is “currently investigating an active incident near Interstate 71 and State Route 73 in Clinton County.”
At approximately 9 a.m., an armed subject attempted to breach the FBI Cincinnati visitor screening facility, according to a tweet from the FBI Cincinnati account.
“Following an alarm and response by FBI Special Agents, the subject fled northbound on Interstate 71,” the tweet said.
“The #FBI, Ohio State Highway Patrol and local law enforcement partners are on scene near Wilmington, OH trying to resolve this critical incident,” added a second tweet
Another law enforcement source told Fox News that the FBI office is now safe after the incident.
WLWT had also confirmed a possible threat to the FBI field office in Cincinnati.
According to the outlet, the FBI said the suspect was armed, but did not disclose what type of weapon.
The Clinton County Emergency Management Agency sent out an alert announcing a lockdown in effect for all buildings within a one-mile radius of the intersection of Smith Road and Center Road.

He advised people to lock their doors and stay inside. The warrant is related to the suspect at the FBI office, according to WLWT.
