It’s been a long time since we last created a desktop creation guide, in part because we try to make our way through robots and scalpers to pay twice the selling price of a graphics card was a miserable experience we would not want to inflict. to anyone.
But while 2022 has made most things more expensive, PC builders have been lucky. CPUs and motherboards are in stock and easy to buy, DDR4 memory is really cheap, and you can head online to Amazon, Best Buy or Newegg and find virtual shelves full of GPUs at prices that, even if they were a little swollen, they would have looked miraculous. six months ago.
Global demand for computers is expected to drop quite a bit in the coming months, but if you’ve been patiently waiting to build your first desktop or replace an existing version, this is probably the best time to build a computer by mid-2020. .
To help anyone looking for advice on creating systems, we’ve put together four compilation samples focused on getting you the most out of your money. They won’t be flashy, high-end teams, and you should treat them as starting points. As we tell you why we chose the components we made, you can decide if you need to make adjustments to suit your requirements. Later we can make separate guides focused on small mini ITX constructions and high-end computers.

A note on component selection
Part of the fun of building a computer is making it look the way you want it to. We have selected boxes that will physically fit the motherboards and other pieces that we recommend, which we believe will be a good stylistic fit for each system. But there are many cases, and our choices will not be the only options available.
The same goes for power supplies. We especially recommend EVGA models with 80 Plus Gold or better efficiency certification because we have had good experiences with them in our constructions and the ones we have created for friends or acquaintances. But if you know enough to have a favorite brand, of course, go with what works for you. The same goes for RAM: we will recommend specific capabilities and speeds and use brands that have worked well for us in the past, but that doesn’t mean they are better than many other RAM kits with equivalent specifications.
Finally, we will not include the cost of a Windows license in our cost estimates. You can pay many different prices for Windows: $ 139 for an official Microsoft retail license, $ 120 for an “OEM” license for system builders, or $ 15 to $ 40 for a product key from resale key sites of gray market product. If you have a product key for Windows 10, Windows 8, or Windows 7, you may also be able to install and activate Windows 11 at no additional charge, as Microsoft never denied this option after the free upgrade period. Windows 10. We will leave that decision to you.
Nor have we priced most peripherals, such as webcams, monitors, keyboards, or mice, as we assume most people will reuse what they already have or purchase these components separately.
