At least three killed when a train derailed in the Alps in southern Germany

A train has derailed in the Alps in southern Germany, killing at least three people and injuring several others, authorities said.

The train to Munich derailed at around 12.15pm on Friday in Burgrain, near the tourist resort of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, according to federal police. Looks like some carriages ended up next to him. The cause was not immediately clear.

The local government of Garmisch-Partenkirchen said at least three people were killed and several others were seriously injured, the dpa news agency reported.

It was not clear how many people were on the train at the time of the accident. The line between Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Oberau, north of the crash site, has been closed.
