Australians still show a strong preference for Apple products; Apple is the strongest tablet provider in 2021: Telsyte

Australia’s interest in Apple Silicon computers and tablets is contributing to the brand’s strong market share, according to The Telsyte Australian Table Computer Study 2022 from analyst firm Telsyte.

The study found that more than one in three (36%) Australians who plan to buy a computer this year are considering Apple devices.

The M1, first launched in 2020 on the Mac, is shown on iPads. The study found that about one in four (23%) iPads sold in 2021 contained the chip.

Despite having an ARM version, Telsyte estimates that less than 5% of Windows-compatible computers sold in 2021 had an ARM processor, but that could increase substantially over the next two years.

The benefit of better battery life and portability will appeal to businesses, as Microsoft is poised to follow Apple down the ARM path with recent announcements, Telsyte says.

With more software and app improvements to iPads to take advantage of M1 chips, Apple could introduce native Pro Mac apps like Final Cut and Logic for iPad Pros or develop a mode that allows iPads to run more MacOS apps in upcoming announcements. WWDC.

Tablet and computer sales softened in 2021 with 3.4 million tablets and 4 million computers sold. This was up 1.4% and 2.3% less than a year ago, respectively. However, both figures are still above pre-pandemic levels.

Telsyte claims that Apple Mac and Chromebook computers have outstanding performance in the computer market, growing by 17% and 15% respectively.

Apple remained the leading seller in the tablet market with more than half of the tablets sold in 2021 being iPads (iPads 53.6%, Android 16%, Windows 28.5%, ChromeOS 2%) and sales of ‘iPads and Chromebooks 2 in 1 grew by 5% and 8% respectively, while other operating systems experienced a decline in sales (3% and 2% respectively).

The top three tablet vendors in 2021 continued to be Apple, Samsung and Microsoft, with more than 80% of total sales combined.

Google’s Android and ChromeOS ready to rise Android and ChromeOS, Google’s two consumer operating systems, are beginning to attract consumers beyond the education industry.

The growing popularity of Chromebooks (both 2-in-1 and laptops) makes them increasingly competitive in both the tablet and computer market as an affordable computing device that also offers the full web browsing experience. desk, found Telsyte.

Lenovo is the leading provider of Chromebooks in both the tablet (2 in 1) and computer markets.

While reducing consumer demand for Android tablets, Telsyte expects Google’s reorientation of Android tablets, with better Android 13 software support, to improve productivity and potentially increase consumer and developer interest.

Android 13 is expected to have more UI optimization and gestures to take advantage of larger screens.

According to the study, 2 in 1 continued to dominate tablet sales, with more than 80% of tablets sold in 2021 being 2 in 1. Keyboard connection rates continued to rise across all tablet operating systems, including Android tablets.
