United seem closer and closer to finally agreeing a quota with Barcelona, which has a great need to raise funds with the sale of the player.
Spanish channel Sport reported over the weekend that the deal is “closed” and that the Red Devils will pay £ 68 million to acquire the Dutch international.
However, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has provided a new update to the De Jong saga.
According to the Italian journalist, the Premier League as a whole made an offer of 65 million euros, but Barcelona have asked for 85/86 million euros.
Romano wrote on Twitter: “Manchester United had a new direct contact today for the deal with Frenkie de Jong.
“After a new verbal offer of 65 million euros, Barça is asking for a share of 85/86 million euros. Finally, the agreement is approaching, as clubs are in talks on add-ons to reach a full package of 85 million euros. Work in progress between clubs ”.

United boss Erik ten Hag is looking forward to reuniting with De Jong after his successful time together at Ajax.
Two current Ajax stars who are watching the Ten Hag set are Brazilian winger Antony and Argentine defender Lisandro Martinez.
Dutch journalist Marcel van der Kraan claims that the Eredivisie club has valued the pair at £ 130 million.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Van der Kraan said: “Martinez has two offers from England, one from Arsenal and one from Manchester United. But when I say offer, there has been an offer at the club to talk, there there has been an offer to his agent to discuss things.
“And there’s still no absolute concrete money supply on the table, but that could happen soon. Again, it’s expensive because Ajax are demanding between £ 45m and £ 50m for that player.
“Why is that? Ajax don’t need to sell more players. They have the money, they’re good financially and they’ve said, look, if someone comes for Martinez, or Antony, for example, it’s worth 80 million pounds in the eyes from Ajax, the prices they ask for are absolutely huge because they have no need to sell.
“And they know that Man United, like many clubs in Europe right now, needs players, so it’s a very awkward position that Manchester United are in right now.”
