Barrie police are investigating an “absolutely horrific” incident.

Man in serious condition after what police say ‘appears’ to have been a shooting at The Foundry, home to many Georgian College students

A man is in serious but not life-threatening condition at a Toronto-area trauma center after a suspicious shooting this morning in Barrie.

City police were called to the Foundry on Georgian Drive shortly before 4 a.m

Alex Hannivan, a resident of the foundry, was called by a friend shortly after.

“I was asleep and I woke up. It’s absolutely scary,” he said of the shooting. “I’m ready to move.”

Hannivan said police knocked on doors afterward, making sure others were safe.

Police say no arrests have been made in connection with the incident.

“I believe this is an isolated incident and we do not believe there is any risk to public safety at this time,” said Barrie Police Service Corporate Communications Coordinator Jennette Mays.

He was asked if the Saturday morning incident was a shooting.

“So it seems,” he said. “He looks like he’s serious, but he doesn’t look like he’s in any danger (condition).”

Foundry Georgian, located at 310 Georgian Dr., is a townhome complex that includes five buildings, each with multiple units with up to five people living in them.

Although many students live there, Georgian College has no official affiliation with the Foundry.

The municipal police have been called there numerous times over the past year.
