The BCGEU has issued a 72-hour strike notice, putting them in a legal position to start industrial action from Monday afternoon.

The bargaining committee representing 33,000 members of the BC General Employees Union who work for the provincial government issued the notice Friday afternoon.
The union said it would not immediately release details about the shape of its industrial action.

The last collective agreement between the union and the Public Services Agency expired on April 1. Negotiations for a new collective agreement began on February 8. Negotiations reached an impasse on April 6, with union members voting 95% in favor of a strike mandate. on June 22.
The parties met again in July, when members rejected a 9.99 percent wage increase over three years, after which talks quickly broke down.
Earlier this week, the government invited the union back to the bargaining table. Exploratory discussions were held and the negotiating committee unanimously decided that a return to the table would not be fruitful.
