Beloved grandfather dies in Adelaide house fire

An elderly grandfather has died overnight in a tragic house fire in Adelaide’s northern suburbs.

Emergency services were called to the property on Pooraka’s Nalpa Street at 1.30am this morning.

Neighbors said they were alerted by the sound of broken glass, but said there was nothing they could do.

When the police arrived, they found the house fully engulfed in flames.

Firefighters intervened quickly and extinguished the fire.

Shortly after, crews found the body of an 89-year-old man, believed to be the occupant.

Neighbors described the man, who had been living on the street for more than a decade, as a “very nice” person.

“He was very nice and I would always see him in the morning and say hi,” Sandra Krzywda said.

“The whole house was on fire and nobody could do anything.”

The circumstances of the incident are not believed to be suspicious and police said they will prepare a report for the coroner.
