When the Bengals first introduced alternative uniforms consisting of white shirts and black striped pants to both, a key piece was missing. A change in the rules of the league will make this piece a reality.
The Bengals have announced they will wear a white helmet (presumably with black stripes) in 2022.
Like other secondary aspects, it will appear a handful of times throughout the season. But those occasions will be memorable, with the Bengals for the first time in franchise history wearing something other than orange helmets during a match.
For nearly a decade, the league insisted that players wear a helmet and a helmet only throughout the season. It had something to do with the prevention of concussions. It never made much sense, especially with college programs like Oregon that had a different helmet each week.
Now, it will make sense, and a lot of money. People will buy these alternative helmets, from the new red helmet of the jeans to the new black helmet of the Saints, the new white helmet of the Bengals and the old school aspects like the Patriots and Buccaneers. To any team that has not yet taken advantage of the new ability to have a second helmet, what are you waiting for?
