President Biden faced a new round of reaction on Twitter for his comments on 9mm gun and ammunition control legislation on Memorial Day.
Speaking to reporters outside the White House, Biden spoke about his efforts to work on gun control legislation with Republicans in Congress after the deadly shooting at Uvalde School. Although Biden admitted that his executive options are limited, he suggested that 9mm bullets have no “rational basis” for using them for self-defense.
“The 22-caliber bullet will be lodged in the lungs and we can remove it. A 9 mm bullet expels the lung from the body. The idea of a high-caliber weapon simply has no rational basis in terms of self-esteem. “Protection, hunting,” Biden said.
He added: “And remember, in the Constitution, the Second Amendment was never absolute. You couldn’t buy a cannon when the Second Amendment was passed. You couldn’t go out and buy a lot of weapons.”

According to the ATF’s Annual Gun Manufacturing and Export Report, 9mm pistols produced accounted for approximately 56.8% of new pistols produced in 2019, accounting for approximately 42% of pistols produced between 2010 and 2020.
Several Twitter users pointed out the popularity of 9mm bullets on Monday as they attacked Biden.

Biden has often stated that the Second Amendment “is not absolute”, although the White House has insisted that it has no plans to do anything about the Second Amendment. In addition, he has often repeated the denied claim that people were prohibited from owning guns when the amendment was passed.
Biden’s comments came a day after the president and first lady visited Uvalde, Texas, to reunite with the families of the victims and survivors of the Robb Elementary School shooting that killed 19 students and two teachers. Since then, he has repeatedly called for more gun control legislation.
