No medical attention is needed, the official added in a statement released to reporters traveling with the president.
“As the president said, his foot got stuck on the pedal as he got off and he’s fine. No medical attention is needed. The president hopes to spend the rest of the day with his family,” the official said.
Biden fell when he was finishing a bike ride with First Lady Jill Biden. The president veered off the group as he rode his bicycle toward a crowd that had gathered nearby. Biden stopped and seemed to get his foot on the pedal as he tried to dismount.
“I caught my foot” in the cage of his feet, Biden told reporters traveling with him later. “I’m good.”
U.S. Secret Service agents quickly helped the president get up after his fall.
The crowd applauded when the president, who turned 80 in November, stood up. Biden then chatted with the crowd for a few minutes, and led a spectator to meet his dog, the commander.
When a boy in the crowd asked him what it was like to run the country, Biden joked, “Oh, it’s like any other job.”
“Some parts are easy, some parts are hard,” he added.
The Biden spend a long weekend at their home in Rehoboth Beach, partly to celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary.
