Biden sinks during a bike ride in Delaware

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. – President Biden fell off his bicycle on Saturday as he tried to dismount in front of a small crowd of reporters and spectators.

The president said his foot got stuck in a toe clip, which caused him to tip over after stopping. He quickly got up and said “I’m fine” before answering a handful of questions from reporters.

Mr. Biden, 79, often takes bike rides during visits to his vacation home in Rehoboth Beach, where he and First Lady Jill Biden spent the weekend. They celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary on Friday.

The president was riding his bicycle in Cape Henlopen State Park when he had the accident. He did not appear to have suffered any injuries, and the White House said he did not need medical attention.

After answering questions about Chinese product tariffs and gun control legislation, he got back on his bike and finished the trip.

Mr. Biden is just the latest U.S. president to fall on the public stage. In 1975, President Gerald R. Ford fell while descending the stairs of Air Force One during a visit to Austria. Nearly a decade later, President Ronald Reagan slipped as he boarded his plane. And Biden himself stumbled last year as he boarded the presidential plane.

Mr. Biden’s misfortune on wheels was not unprecedented either. In 2004, President George W. Bush suffered a spill while riding a mountain bike on his ranch in Crawford, Texas. And in 2015, John F. Kerry, then Secretary of State, broke his leg while cycling through the French Alps.
