Big The Cat returns to Sonic Frontiers?

Please make this true. Bring my kid Big the Cat back.

Sonic Frontiers is, as we know, the next big main entry in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. Although the game is currently in speculation due to the alleged lack of content in a vast open world, I’m still pretty excited to see what they end up doing.

Sure, it feels a bit disconnected between how Sonic looks and how the world around him looks, but I’m also a bit tragic about Sonic, so I really have high hopes. I love video games, what can I say!

So far, all we’ve had to come out with are the game’s trailers, as well as the gameplay and demo footage. However, dataminers have managed to unearth some leftover shaders and strings from Sonic Origins that may be indicators of what’s to come in Sonic Frontiers.

This conclusion seems to come from the fact that the shaders and strings found in Sonic Origins do not seem to align with anything included in the game. Rather, they appear to be related to the “” Frontiers “messaging system, according to Arsenic, one of the data miners involved.

This video by Joey from GameXplain gives us a good summary of what these dataminers found.

So let’s dissect this bad guy a little bit. Keep in mind that all of this is speculation and may not reflect what is seen in the final Sonic Frontiers product.

Cyberspace

This would not be the first time Sonic has gone into space. In fact, the blue blur loves to go into space. I really wouldn’t be surprised if they threw our pointed friend at a rocket and kicked him out!

Kodama

This could be related to something we saw in the pictures from the Sonic Frontiers game. Kodama are historically known as small tree spirits in Japanese folklore. If you’ve seen the Studio Ghibli Princess Mononoke movie, you probably know them as these little sweets:

Now, if we go back to Sonic Frontiers, specifically to the images from the IGN game, we see these little insects jumping and making little noises.

Judging by the “KodamaElder”, “KodamaHermit”, “KodamaFollowersNum” and “KodamaStockNum” chains, these little ones could be the new NPCs introduced to Sonic Frontiers. In my personal opinion, I always have time for weird guys.

Great cat

My big favorite shit, Big the Cat, has often been abandoned in a Waluigi-type position, appearing primarily in sports and racing titles since its introduction to the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise.

Once a playable character, you could control the cat in Duke Nukem’s voice while looking for his best friend Froggy and going fishing. A simple big boy with simple old boy wishes.

According to the data mine, a string called “FishingBigFirstTalked” may suggest that Sonic Frontiers will not only include our kid the Big the Cat, but will possibly include an all-ass fishing game that includes Big the Cat.

Some of my favorite games have fishing minigames. Ocarina of Time, Animal Crossing and, more recently, Cult of the Lamb are just a few.

If we are to believe that Big the Cat will not only appear in Sonic Frontiers, but will also be engaged in fishing, an activity he enjoys very much, then I am there.

We still have some time left for the release of Sonic Frontiers, so I decided to keep my eyes wide open to see the little snippets that appear in terms of gameplay. There really can be more than it looks!
