Billy Vunipola has been called up to the English national team by Eddie Jones for the summer tour of Australia, along with eight headless players.
The injuries of the eighth Alex Dombrandt and Sam Simmonds have opened the door for Vunipola to make its first international appearance since last year’s Six Nations.
The 29-year-old had not appeared on an England team until Jones named his 36-man tour to face the Wallabies in three races, starting in Perth on 2 July.
Vunipola was knocked out in the final stages of Saturday’s Gallagher Premiership final defeat to Leicester and a day later Jones suggested he could not go on tour due to a head injury.
“I needed to find the best,” Jones of Vunipola said. “He was a little up and down in the last Six Nations he played with us.
“I asked him to go find the best. Consequently for the Saracens, he has been close to that. He was exceptional in the final. He looked like a number 8 test.”

Joe Marler and Premiership Player of the Year Ben Earl are notably out of the group heading to Australia on Tuesday, but veteran half-scrum Danny Care is present as he nears his first game since 2018. .
