Black Adam’s first trailer brings thunder and fury

After some major delays, director James Collet-Serra’s feature film Black Adam starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson finally hits theaters this fall, and a new trailer has just been released featuring the film’s titular antihero when he first came to power in the modern age.

The first trailer for Black Adam features Teth-Adam (Johnson), a man born as a slave in the fictional country of Kahndaq in the distant past. Although Teth-Adam dies at the hands of his slaveholders, he has come back to life thanks to a magic lightning apparently called by his son shortly before the child dies from the stress of the ritual. It is the death of Teth-Adam’s son in the past that first radicalizes him and encourages him to use his new powers to seek a kind of justice so brutal that those around him are forced to shut him down.

Black Adam will not be just a story about Adam himself, however, and the trailer tells how a version of the Justice Society of America, consisting of Hawkman (Aldis Hodge), Atom Smasher (Noah Centineo), Cyclone (Quintess Swindell), and Doctor Fate (Pierce Brosnan) will get up to stop him.

Black Adam hits theaters on October 21st.
