Bomb scare: Banksia Grove streets closed as TRG responds to suspicious package

A bomb blast near a primary school has forced the closure of a quiet street in the northern suburbs of Perth.

Police were called to Viridian Drive on Thursday morning after a resident on the street found a suspicious item that was feared to be an explosive device in his home.

The report, related to a domestic incident on the property, triggered a quick response from authorities, who gathered on the quiet street minutes later.

Blockades were placed throughout the area, even near Banksia Grove Elementary School, while officers worked to locate the item.

Once the package was identified, local police called for support from the Tactical Response Group.

Specialist officers from the bomb squad assisted the officers at the scene remotely, using the vision taken by the police at the scene to examine the device.

On the advice of the TRG bomb response team, it was finally established that the package was not an explosive device.

After confirming that the area was safe, police reopened the street to traffic and left the area.
