Boris Johnson drops the plan for the wedding to Checkers

Boris Johnson and his wife Carrie have abandoned plans to hold a delayed wedding party at Checkers.

The couple got married last year in a low-key ceremony at Westminster Cathedral followed by a reception in the Downing Street Garden. However, coronavirus restrictions meant that they could only invite a maximum of 30 guests. They had a two-day honeymoon.

Johnson planned to celebrate it in style on July 30 at Checkers, from 1921 the official residence of the Prime Minister in Buckinghamshire. The 16th-century mansion is set in 1,500 acres of land and has an indoor pool.
