Boris Johnson would lose almost every seat on the battlefield, including his own, if general elections were held tomorrow, according to a new poll.
A YouGov poll predicted that the Conservatives would lose all but three of the 54 seats they seized from Labor three years ago in a reversal of the Red Wall defeat.
All the constituencies that changed in the north of England would return to Sir Keir Starmer’s party, with only one trio in the Midlands remaining blue. In addition, the Conservatives would give up 34 more “battlefield” seats that they won by a margin of 15 points or less in the last election.
The findings will increase pressure on Johnson, who is facing calls to resign from his later benches following Sue Gray’s report.
Experts predict that the Prime Minister would lose his majority of 7,210 in Uxbridge and Ruislip, and Labor would seize the constituency. His would be one of the three main seats in north London that would fall into a Labor resurgence if elections were held tomorrow.
Sir Iain Duncan Smith, a former Conservative leader in Chingford and Woodford Green, and Theresa Villiers, a former Northern Ireland secretary in Chipping Barnet, would also be removed.
Other high-profile victims of the planned Tory defeat include Alok Sharma, who would lose Reading West, and former Brexit minister Steve Baker, who would lose Wycombe.
Almost all the new incorporation of Red Wall deputies elected in 2019 would be dismissed after a single term.
