Police have sealed off a major road in Manchester city center and evacuated residents after a “suspicious device” was found.
There is currently a large cordon on Great Ancoats Street between Adair Street and Store Street. Images of the scene show a row of shops, including the Ibis Hotel, taped.
Since then, police have said a suspicious device has been found, with a cord attached. GMP has said the device “does not appear to be viable”, but has not yet confirmed it.
A spokesman said: “Police are currently on Longacre Street in Manchester city center, following the discovery of a potentially suspicious device. As a standard security precaution, there is a 100-meter cordon and They have evacuated nearby buildings, closed roads, and located on Great Ancoats Street and neighboring side streets while an assessment is being conducted.
“After an initial assessment, the device does not appear to be viable, although it needs to be confirmed. We are working closely with GMFRS to ensure that this incident is resolved quickly and safely. The public is advised to avoid the area.”
You can see the number of police vehicles and police officers guarding the area. Police have confirmed that they were called to the scene for information on a suspicious device.
