COCOA, Fla. – A brush fire that broke out in Brevard County on Friday forced the evacuation and damage to homes is now 100% contained, officials said.
According to firefighters, the fire is burning in Sharpes, near Cocoa, and has affected 10 homes, five of the 10 destroyed.

The Sky 6 video shows flames burning in a backyard and a large column of smoke blowing over a neighborhood.
“I was just scared,” said Sheila Clemmons, who lost her home.
A rubbish fire broke out in Brevard County on Friday and forced evacuation, officials said.
Brevard Emergency Management spokesman Don Walker said 50 homes were evacuated in a four-island area.
Walker said homes in the area were mobile homes, with a lot of wood involved.
“Someone said, ‘Hey, your roof is on fire,’ and the tree caught fire. So I took out everything I could,” John Fanton said after losing his house.

According to firefighters, the fire burned in Sharpes, near Cocoa, and affected 10 houses, five of which were destroyed.
One of the firefighters was taken to hospital due to heat exhaustion.
The Red Cross says it has equipment to help residents who may be displaced by the fire.
Teams said all pets affected by the evacuations have been reunited with their owners.

Brevard County was listed “high” on Friday for fire hazard, according to FFS. “High” is the third on a scale of 1 to 5, with “low” the number 1 and “extreme” the number 5.
