Running back Brian Robinson Jr. of the Washington Chiefs was shot while fighting off teenagers trying to steal the former Alabama standout’s car Sunday, the District of Columbia police chief said Monday.
Police in the District of Columbia are looking for two boys believed to be between the ages of 15 and 17 as suspects in the incident.

Police Chief Robert Contee said the two armed teenagers approached Robinson as he walked half a block from the CrabBoss restaurant to his Dodge Challenger Hellcat on H Street in Washington.
“Our victim in this case began to struggle with one of the suspects, was able to wrestle a firearm from one of the suspects and was shot twice by the second suspect,” Contee said.
Although the assailants made off with Robinson’s car keys, as well as two guns, according to the police report, they did not get the car.
The suspects fled the area in a vehicle that Contee said was stolen from Prince George’s County, Maryland, on Friday. That vehicle was recovered by law enforcement, Contee said, in Prince George’s County not long after the shooting.
Police have video of the incident from a company’s surveillance camera.
Robinson was taken to a hospital after being shot in the leg and hip.
On Monday morning, Robinson broadcast via his Instagram account that he had undergone surgery and that it “went well”.
When Commanders coach Ron Rivera spoke to reporters Monday about Robinson, he said he didn’t have a timetable for the running back’s return to football, but that “it would be a matter of time before he gets back here.”
A prep star at Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa, Robinson joined the Chiefs in the third round of the NFL Draft on April 29 after rushing for 1,343 yards and 14 touchdowns and catching 35 passes for 296 yards for Alabama during the 2021 season .
