The British Soap Awards returned on Saturday for another star-studded live ceremony for the first time in two years, with host Phillip Schofield welcoming the big, good soap world to London’s Hackney Empire.
And it was Emmerdale who emerged victorious as they won the coveted prize for best soap at the end of the night, with the cast and crew excited to take to the stage to pick up their prize.
The Leeds-based soap tied with EastEnders as they led the winners with four gongs each, with Emmerdale taking home the awards for lead performer, best family performance and dramatic performance in addition to best soap.

He went on to explain how proud the soap was of being able to stay on the television screen throughout the pandemic, when restrictions on Covid-19 caused many television shows, including rival soap EastEnders, to temporarily shut down.
The soap star also took a look at the incredible 50th anniversary of the soap this year, while dedicating the gong to the whole team and everyone in Yorkshire.
To end her speech, Karen, 47, thanked everyone again for the vote before concluding, “Now we can go to the bar!”

Emmerdale’s other major victories included the Leading Performer Award, which went to Paige Sandhu for her performance as the deranged serial killer Meena Jutla.
The 25-year-old actress was the first to receive this newly created award after the male and female categories were eliminated by this year’s heads of shows.
Paige, who looked stunning in a mint green cloak dress, revealed to the audience that she did not think she would win the award before congratulating the other nominees in the category.
Beauty went on to say that Emmerdale is the “friendliest and most charming place to work” before thanking the producers, their family and their partner.

When he took the stage, his proud daughter Amelia Flanagan (April Dingle) was seen wiping away a tear, while the excited actor declared, “I’m drunk tonight!” before saying he planned to wear the gong as an accessory.
On a serious note, Mark, who has played the role since 1996, thanked the producers for entrusting him with the story, cast, and group of Emmerdale, the Stroke Association, and two stroke survivors with whom he work, as he commented: ‘I am forever in your debt’.
Mark concisely concluded by sharing some creepy facts about stroke, including that every 5 minutes someone has a stroke, before saying that “more needs to be done” for funding and research.
Mark took to the stage again while The Dingles of Emmerdale won the best family.
Sam Hooten (Sam Dingle) gave a speech in which he dedicated it to the late actor Andy Devine – who played Shadrach Dingle – who died of pneumonia in hospital after being admitted after a fall accidental in January.
The actor, whose real name was Peter, appeared to have “lost his balance” and died at Southport Hospital in Merseyside on January 27 this year and Sam noted that the cast only found out. of his death when it was reported a few weeks ago.
