Britney Spears marries Sam Asghari in California

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Britney Spears has married longtime partner Sam Asghari in a Southern California ceremony that took place months after the pop superstar was released on bail.

Asghari’s representative, Brandon Cohen, confirmed the couple’s wedding. He said: “I am very excited that this day has come and they are married. I know I wanted this for so long. He is so affectionate and supportive every step of the way.”

The wedding took place nine months after the couple got engaged and almost seven months after the end of Spears’ guardianship. As he sought to end the court case that controlled many aspects of his life, Spears expressed his desire to marry Asghari and have children.

Spears became pregnant earlier this year, but suffered a miscarriage in March.

The couple met on the set of the music video “Slumber Party” in 2016.

The wedding day was not without its unexpected drama: Spears’ first husband was arrested after trying to block his wedding.

Ventura County Sheriff’s Captain Cameron Henderson said officers responded to an intrusion call after 2 p.m. Thursday. She says the pop singer’s first husband, Jason Alexander, was arrested at the ceremony site.

Henderson says Alexander was arrested after officers noticed he had an arrest warrant in another county.

Alexander went to his Instagram live when he approached the security of the event. In what appeared to be a mostly empty but decorated room, he told them that Spears had invited him.

“She’s my first wife, my only wife,” said Alexander, who briefly married his childhood friend Spears in 2004. Their marriage only lasted 55 hours.

Spears was previously married to Kevin Federline, with whom she shares two children, ages 14 and 15.
