BTS will appear with Joe Biden in the White House to talk about anti-Asian hate crimes

K-pop group BTS is heading to the White House, with plans to visit President Joe Biden to talk about anti-Asian hate crimes and celebrate AANHPI Heritage Month.

No details have been announced, but a visit to South Korean pop sensations will take place on Tuesday, the White House said.

“President Biden has previously spoken of his commitment to combat the rise in anti-Asian hate crimes and signed the Hate Crimes Act COVID-19 in May 2021 to provide law enforcement resources to identify, investigate and report hate crimes and ensure that information on hate crimes is more accessible to the AA and NHPI communities, ”the White House said. “President Biden and BTS will also discuss the importance of diversity and inclusion and the BTS platform as youth ambassadors spreading a message of hope and positivity around the world.”

BTS has partnered with UNICEF to launch Love Myself, an anti-violence campaign. They have also acted in the United Nations General Assembly.

The White House has taken advantage of pop culture figures to highlight different social issues. Last week, Selena Gomez appeared with First Lady Jill Biden at a mental health awareness event. Paris Hilton visited the White House earlier this month to speak with government officials about her advocacy for the protection of youth in residential programs.
