Burgess does not receive financial payments from the club in a humble start to his football dreams after the match.
As it stands, the former England international has a big decision to make: join the Rabbitohs technical staff or work as an assistant with Wayne Bennett to the Dolphins in 2023.
But for now, Burgess is content to help the Axemen, who returned to the Group 2 rugby league after a two-year absence.
The man who played 80 minutes in a grand final with a broken cheekbone has also been successful on the north coast of New South Wales, leading his team to seven wins in eight games.
