Federal officials say a COVID-19 vaccine for Canada’s youngest children could be approved as early as this month.
Health Canada tweeted Tuesday that it expects to make a decision in mid-July on whether Moderna’s vaccine for children between the ages of six months and five will be approved.
Moderna has requested that her vaccine be given in two doses, each a quarter of the adult dose, about four weeks apart.
The agency says it received a presentation from Pfizer-BioNTech on June 23 for its vaccine for children between six months and four years old.
A Health Canada spokesman says regulators are still working out a timeline for their review of the Pfizer-BioNTech application.
Canada has not yet authorized a vaccine for its nearly two million children under the age of five.
The Pfizer-BioNTech Comirnaty vaccine can be used in children up to five years of age, and the Modern Spikevax vaccine has been approved for children from six years of age.
