Canalys: Global smart watch shipments rise in first quarter, but smart bands plummet

A total of 41.7 million smart bands and smart watches were shipped worldwide during the first quarter of 2022 according to Canalys data. 32 million of them were smart watches with the product category which experienced a growth of 15% compared to the same period last year. On the other side of the table, smart bands saw a 37% drop in shipments during the quarter, the sixth consecutive drop since the fourth quarter of 2020.

Apple shipped most smart watches in the first quarter of 2022 with a total of 9.2 million units. Cupertino also gained 22.1% of global market share thanks to strong demand for the Apple Watch Series 7. Huawei saw 4.6 million shipments and an 11% market share, while that Xiaomi handled 4.2 million shipments and a market share of 10.1%. Samsung came in fourth with 3.4 million shipments and a market share of 8.1%, while Fitbit saw 2.9 million shipments and a market share of 7%.
