Capcom recently announced that owners of the Resident Evil 2 remake, the Resident Evil 3 remake, and Resident Evil 7 on PC can now revert to previous versions of the games before they receive a handful of updates adjacent to the next-generation console. .
“Due to the overwhelming response from the community, we’ve re-enabled the previous version, which does not include ray tracing and enhanced 3D audio,” Capcom’s Resident Evil team wrote on Steam. “Both enhanced and earlier versions will be available from now on.”
Here are the steps you need to take to cancel your game update:
- Click “LIBRARY” on the Steam client.
- Right-click on the game and select “Properties …”
- From the pop-up menu, select “BETAS”
- From the drop-down menu, select “dx11_non-rt” (Note: no password required)
- Close the popup menu and let the Steam client update the game automatically
You should be able to start the game normally once the upgrade is complete
Note that some of the game’s configuration options will be reset as a result of the rollback process.
Going back to the latest version is just a matter of following the same process but selecting “None” from the betas menu.
Capcom revealed earlier this week that Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil 7 will get 4K resolution, ray tracing, higher frame rates and 3D audio on PC to match the new versions on PlayStation 5 and Xbox X / S Series. . Many were concerned that the system requirements of these upgrades would prevent them from playing on weaker computers. But luckily, Capcom listened and acted only a few days later.
The ability to use earlier advancing versions should also prevent popular modifications to these three games from becoming obsolete as they continue to receive updates.
Of course, that hasn’t stopped people from calling for a new Dino Crisis, but that’s another story.
