Carl Pei’s Nothing gives us a glimpse of his first smartphone

Nothing’s first smartphone, the Nothing Phone 1, will be launched in July and now we know what it will look like.

OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei’s hardware startup has launched its first product, the Ear (1) headset, in 2021, and has been making fun of the next phone ever since.

Like headphones, the phone has transparent elements. It’s hard to know if they’re real or fake, but if we’re really looking through the back cover (presumably glass) of the phone, the image shared by Nothing reveals a couple of details about the phone: it will have a dual rear camera and wireless charging .

We also know that the device will have a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset and will work with a modified version of Android, but no other details have been officially revealed. Rumor has it that it will have a 6.55-inch OLED screen with a resolution of 1,080 x 2400 pixels and no “chin” visible at the bottom. The same source says that the phone will have a flat design (think of an iPhone), which seems accurate from what we can see in the image of Nothing above.

Transparent items have been tested before. Xiaomi had a partially fake back on its Mi 8 Explorer Edition, and HTC did something similar with its Exodus 1 smartphone. ‘supports it as a key part of its brand.

The release is on July 12th, although we are sure there will be more teasers and leaks before that date.
