About three months before polling day, Gloucester-South Nepean Coun. Carol Anne Meehan says she won’t run for Ottawa city council again in October.
The longtime CTV Ottawa news anchor who was elected in 2018 with roughly 43 percent of the vote made the announcement in a statement Monday morning.
“With my youngest in college this fall, I’m now at a stage in my life where it’s possible to consider tackling different activities and checking off items on my bucket list,” she wrote.
He said his time in office has been “interesting, rewarding and challenging” and highlighted the toll pandemic restrictions have taken on much of his tenure.
11 places without registered holders
Meehan had registered to stand in Barrhaven East in the October 24 election, a new ward formed as part of wider electoral map changes.
The other registered candidates are Kathleen Caught, Dominik Janelle and Wilson Lo.
Eleven of the city’s 24 neighborhoods have no registered owners.
Coun. Rick Chiarelli’s office has said that despite the scandal and sanctions, he hopes to run again.
Former city councilors Steve Desroches and Doug Thompson are running again for Riverside South-Findlay Creek and Osgoode, respectively.
There will also be a new mayor, with 11 candidates currently registered to replace Jim Watson. The deadline to register is August 19 and election day is October 24.
