Apple showed off the next generation of CarPlay during WWDC 2022, and it looked awesome. CarPlay’s full take on the entertainment information screen, script controls and more causes us to vibrate Apple Car.
While Project Titan remains an R&D project, Apple says the first cars to run on next-generation CarPlay will not be announced until late next year. There is a high probability that drivers will have to wait until 2024 or 2025 to get behind the wheel of the next generation of CarPlay.
iOS 16 includes some CarPlay updates, however, will be available to everyone this fall.
CarPlay applications
Apple sometimes adds new application categories to CarPlay in major iOS updates. The above categories include food orders, parking, and electric vehicle charging applications. iOS 16 extends application support to two new categories: power and driving task apps.

Power and driving task apps are available on CarPlay. Your favorite apps that help you fill your tank and provide you with information about roads, toll booths, towing assistance, and more can find a home in CarPlay.
Expect to see apps in these categories get CarPlay support starting this fall and later this year.
Messages and podcasts
Two more changes coming to CarPlay in iOS 16 will not require future app updates. Apple is speeding up messaging when using Siri, and the Podcasts app is expanding its library.
Starting with iOS 16, drivers will have the option to automatically send a message after Siri reviews it. If voice-to-text conversion works as expected, the currently needed step to review messages in CarPlay will be removed. If you choose to edit your message, CarPlay offers the edit button to review it.
Apple is also exposing more of the features of the Podcasts app to CarPlay with iOS 16. The current CarPlay Podcasts app focuses on the Listening Now feature, but other ways to find the right podcast episode require the app to the iPhone.
Starting with iOS 16, users will be able to find episodes that are downloaded or saved. The app will also allow you to watch the latest episodes of programs in your library. We’re also likely to get new wallpaper options, although the first developer beta doesn’t include them.
