CDC activates Emergency Center for Monkeypox Smallpox

Activation of the EOC “allows the agency to further increase operational support for the response to meet the evolving challenges of the outbreak,” the agency said in a press release.

This facility is currently activated for Covid-19 and is where experts monitor information on other public health emergencies, such as hurricanes, earthquakes and oil spills.

According to the CDC website, the center is working to outline a government response structure and alongside non-governmental actors in response to emergencies.

The latest CDC data shows at least 244 probable or confirmed cases of smallpox in monkeys in the US.
