Channel Seven star leaves live: Nelson Aspen, Sunrise’s “Hollywood Man”, resigns after nearly 20 years as show correspondent

Nelson Aspen, Sunrise’s long-time entertainment journalist, leaves Channel Seven’s breakfast show after nearly two decades on the air.
The 58-year-old man announced his resignation on Friday after delivering his morning news bulletin about the live show from New York City.
“After 19 and a half years with Sunrise, let me know with two weeks’ notice, ”Aspen told co-hosts Natalie Barr and Michael Usher, who seemed surprised by the news.

Aspen leaves Sunrise to finish his new book, Your Home Is Your Castle.
“I’m going to finish my new book … and I’m going to do a book tour, a question and answer show that will include Australian cities,” he said.
Aspen’s last day will be July 15th.

An annoyed Barr said, “Nelson, it’s been a wonderful trip. We’ll miss you, but it’s not a goodbye because we have two weeks to say it.
Aspen has been a component of Sunrise for nearly 20 years, informing a number of hosts such as Barr, Samantha Armytage and Melissa Doyle.
He settled in Los Angeles when he first joined the team, and continued to be Sunrise’s “Hollywood man” even after moving to New York City.

Aspen turned 15 at Sunrise in 2018, saying he was grateful to “have the opportunity to interview so many stars.”
“Just having the experience of being part of the Sunrise family and coming to Australia and meeting you and the fans … are extraordinary opportunities,” he added.
Recently, in 2020, Jennifer Aniston presented her with the International Media Journalist of the Year award from the Publicists Guild of America.
Throughout his career, Aspen has interviewed people such as Julie Andrews, Harrison Ford and Rose Byrne, and has covered all of Sunrise’s major awards, including the Oscars and Golden Globes.
